Hestur, Horse in Iceland

Hestur is a 112-page photo book. It has 77 photographs with poetic texts. It traces the history of the Icelandic horse through the centuries, the seasons, and takes us to the end of the Icelandic night with rare images of horses under the northern lights.

Entirely achieved in self-publishing, Hestur is the culmination of the project. The texts are written in French and translated into English.

The book Hestur is prefaced by Icelandic photographer and Icelandic horse specialist Gígja Einarsdóttir.

The author

Samy Berkani

Samy Berkani, the author of the book “Hestur, horse in Iceland”, is an wildlife photographer based in Jura (France). For the project Hestur, Samy spent two winters in northern Iceland, immersing himself in Icelandic horses life. With Hestur photo book, he takes us on a journey, from the softness of the first snowflakes to the heart of the blizzard, and at the end of the Icelandic night with rare images of horses under the northern lights.

Today, Samy works on the genus Vulpes (foxes). A project that takes him to meet foxes between Europe and Africa. He is also a guide and organises photo tours in Iceland, Scotland and Algeria.
